Anyone who earns more than NOK 69 in a year in Norway (for a shorter stay, the amount decreases proportionally), must pay tax.
If you earn money in Norway, this text is for you. You will find out what you pay for, how much you pay and from what amounts you pay.
So let's explain what we pay for and how to check the most important thing - how much will I pay?
What taxes do we pay in Norway?
As we all know, we pay taxes on something. In Norway, we can divide several types of taxes, divided into the income on which we pay them:
Skatt fra alminnelig inntekt, i.e. standard income tax 22%
We pay it only when our earnings during the entire year exceed NOK 163 (full-time job). For NO shorter stays, this amount decreases proportionally.
Here we have two rates:
- 22% for most people throughout Norway and for entrepreneurs
- 18,5% for people living in the Troms and Finnmark zones
Trygdeavgift, i.e. insurance premium
We pay it when we are covered by the Norwegian contribution and only when our earnings throughout the year exceed NOK 69. For NO shorter stays, this amount decreases proportionally.
Depending on the source of income, we have different rates:
- 7,8% for income from full-time work, benefits, income from companies dealing with fishing and childcare
- 5,1% for pension income
- 11% for income from business activities (ENK only, in the case of work in AS: 7,8%)
Trinnskatt, i.e. progressive tax
The more we earn, the more we pay. We cannot deduct anything from this tax.
We pay it only when our earnings during the entire year exceed NOK 208. For NO shorter stays, this amount decreases proportionally.
In this case, we have different thresholds, after exceeding which we pay an appropriate percentage of the amount exceeding a given threshold (i.e. only the surplus). The mentioned thresholds are:
- 0 to 208 050 – we do not pay trinnskatt
- 208 to 051 – we pay 292% on the surplus
- 292 to 851 – we pay 670% on the surplus
- 670 to 001 – we pay 937% on the surplus
- 937 to 90150 000 – we pay 16,6% on the surplus
- 1 and more – we pay 350% on the surplus
Formueskatt, i.e. wealth tax
We pay it after the value of the property exceeds NOK 1 and it amounts to 700%. Above PLN 000 million, we pay 1%.
Tax residents in Norway pay on the value of assets around the world, tax residents in other NOKs – only on Norwegian assets.
In this case, we have the following rates, depending on the value of the property:
- 0 to 1 – we pay nothing
- 1 to 700 – we pay 001%
- 20 and more – we pay 000%
NOTE: All given rates apply 2024!
