By Car Poland–Norway: Requirements, Tests and Rules

⚠️ POLAND – NORWAY TRAVEL – REQUIREMENTS, TESTS, RULES AND OTHER CORONANEWS ⚠️

In this post I will discuss the current rules for travelling by car between Poland and Norway, and Norway and Poland, with the rules in Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Poland and Norway, and I will briefly mention Poland’s COVID statistics.

⚠️ COVID STATISTICS – A COMPLETE END TO QUARANTINE FROM POLAND SOON?

The statistics as of 8.06 are around 22.5 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the last 14 days. The trend is still downward. So with increasing probability we can hope for a complete end to quarantine. FHI has not announced when the decision will be made. Tomorrow, 9.06 at 14.00 there is a press conference, but the topic is supposed to be the Janssen vaccine, so the decision is more likely towards the end of the week. Fingers crossed 🙂

⚠️ SMALL AD: WANT TO LEARN NORWEGIAN?

  1. Great summer course: https://nataliapasternak.pl/kursy-wakacyjne-2021/ (A1, B1.1)
  2. September courses: https://nataliapasternak.pl/kursy/ (A1-B2)

I highly recommend it; I learned Norwegian at this school myself and got into accounting studies in Norway! 🙂

⚠️ BY CAR POLAND – NORWAY – RULES IN SELECTED COUNTRIES

Here we assume that we start the journey by private car from Poland and end in Norway; the rules in the opposite direction can be found below.

⏭ SWEDEN – you may travel by ferry. Regardless of the route, you must have a negative antigen, PCR or LAMP test. Vaccination and recovered status do not exempt you from this requirement until 30.06. The test must have been taken (sample collected) within 48 hours before crossing the border. Children under 18 are exempt from the testing requirement. The test must be in a language understandable to a Swede – English or a Scandinavian language. Border checks on the Swedish border from the Danish and Polish side are frequent.

⏭ GERMANY – transit is possible and does not require a test. Border checks are sporadic. You should have some proof that Germany is not your final destination – for example, a tenancy agreement from Norway. A verbal declaration will also often be sufficient.

⏭ DENMARK – transit is possible. You must have a negative antigen or PCR test taken within 48 hours (sample collection) before crossing the border. Children under 14 are exempt from the testing requirement. Exempt from testing are vaccinated persons (on the basis of documentation confirming vaccination, regardless of where it was issued) and recovered persons (on the basis of a positive PCR test result or other reliable documentation from up to 6 months back).

⏭ NORWAY – you must have a negative antigen or PCR test taken within 24 hours (sample collection) before crossing the border. Quarantine applies – currently at home. Typically, transit without an overnight stay does not change the entry rules compared with those applicable from Poland (but unfortunately there is no uniform interpretation). Full rules in the pinned post.

⚠️ BY CAR NORWAY – POLAND – RULES IN SELECTED COUNTRIES

⏭ SWEDEN – transit is possible. Tests are not required at all. Border checks are sporadic.

⏭ GERMANY – transit is possible and does not require a test. Border checks are sporadic. Here, an ID card or passport is enough to sufficiently prove that Germany is not your final destination.

⏭ POLAND – you do not need a negative test to enter. A test will also not be required on the ferry. A negative antigen or PCR test taken within 48 hours (result received – unlike in other countries) before crossing the border exempts you from quarantine. You can also be exempt from quarantine by taking a test 48 hours after crossing the border. Fully vaccinated persons are also exempt from quarantine – they do not need to take a test.
