Dagpenger permittering - unemployment benefit

You may be entitled to unemployment benefit (dagpenger) if you are temporarily laid off (permittert) or unemployed.

1. Who is entitled to dagpenger?

The main conditions are as follows::

  • You must lose at least 50% of your working hours (if you work in several jobs, your total working time must be reduced)
When NAV assesses whether your working time has been reduced by at least 50%, it uses a maximum 40-hour working week as the starting point.
  • Your income must be reduced (you will not receive benefit if the reduction has not affected your income)
  • You must have earned at least 186 042 NOK (1.5 G) in the last 12 months or 372 084 NOK (3 G) in the last 36 months. Parental benefits, maternity benefits and pregnancy-related sickness benefits are also included. Income from running a business is not included. People who are apprentices or who have recently completed military service may be entitled to unemployment benefit regardless of previous income.
  • You must be a genuine jobseeker. This means that, as a rule, you must be able to work at least part-time and be willing and able to take any job anywhere in Norway and attend job fairs.
  • As a general rule, you must live in Norway and be a member of the social security system. In some cases, you may be entitled to unemployment benefit from Norway even if you do not live in Norway (transfer of benefit to another EU country)
  • You must be under 67 years of age. You can receive unemployment benefit until the month in which you turn 67.

2. Employment status form (meldekort)

To receive dagpenger payments, you must submit an employment status form every 14 days. NAV uses the employment status form to track your status and calculate payments. Dagpenger is calculated and paid based on the information provided in the employment status form.

You must state how much you worked and for how long during the last 14 days, and confirm that you will remain registered with NAV for the next period. The payment will be calculated based on the information provided in the form. If the employment status form has been completed correctly and submitted on time, payment will be made 2-3 days after the employment status form has been registered.

It is important that you submit the employment status form on time. If you send the employment status form after the deadline, a deduction will be made from the next payment corresponding to the number of days by which the employment status form was delayed.

Dagpenger is taxed as income.
