Registration of a sole proprietorship ENK
If you are here, it means you want to set up a sole proprietorship in Norway – congratulations! With our help, the whole process will go smoothly and without problems.
What characterises a sole proprietorship in Norway?
A sole proprietorship (ENK – enkeltpersonforetak) is the simplest form of business activity in Norway. The registration itself is quick and inexpensive (free if you have a good command of Norwegian and the applicable rules). When registering this type of business, there is no requirement to pay share capital, as is the case with an AS company.
As private business owners, we have the right to withdraw all business income to our private account without any problems. In a sole proprietorship, we can also employ staff without any problems. Running a business does not prevent us from working under an employment contract – we can combine both!
However, it should be remembered that this form of business also has its drawbacks: above all, if the sole proprietorship is our only source of income, we lose access to benefits such as dagpenger, i.e. unemployment benefit. Other benefits also have separate rules for self-employed people and standard employees. In addition, we are personally liable for the company’s finances and obligations with all our private assets.
