Skatekort – when should it be changed?

Generally, there is no obligation to change the card assigned by the office. However, we should take into account that we will pay advance payments that are inadequate to our earnings if the card is incorrect. This means two possible scenarios:

  1. The card is underestimated - tax advances are lower than the tax resulting from annual earnings - then we will have to pay this difference in the annual settlement, but we will receive more net from the employer
  2. The card is overvalued - tax advances are higher than the tax resulting from annual earnings - then we will get a refund in the annual settlement, but we will receive less net from the employer

Generally important rule:

Regardless of the amount of advance payments or the chosen tax card - we all pay the same taxes. If you earn as much as another person, you will ultimately pay the same taxes in the annual tax return, regardless of advance payments.

With exceptions, e.g. related to the 25% kildeskatt card, which may vary your final taxes.
