How does tax amnesty work?

Tax amnesty consists in the voluntary correction or supplementation of information that has not been previously provided or taken into account, which allows for the correct determination of tax. Therefore, if we had unreported income of NOK 50.000, for example from NOKyptcurrencies, which we had to report, Norway lost NOK 11.000 - this is how much tax we should pay and interest and penalties may be charged on this amount.

To correctly determine your tax amount, you must provide complete and correct information. In addition, you must also provide information regarding your source of assets or income. Unfortunately, any previously imposed additional tax will not be cancelled.

If the conditions for a voluntary correction are met, the tax office will make a correction and send a new return with the correct information. If we have to pay something in connection with the change - interest will be charged on the tax that should have been paid.

How many years can be adjusted through tax amnesty?

According to the rules, we can apply for tax amnesty even up to 10 years ago. We can also correct our tax return in Norway up to 10 years ago if we provide incorrect information or fail to provide the information we should.

Some people are probably wondering: does Norway know about my earnings in Poland? Does he know about my assets in Poland? The answer is yes, he knows.

Norway has signed a number of agreements on the exchange of information on tax matters with other NOKs. There are both automatic exchange agreements and individual tax, VAT and NOKaj reporting. Norway entered into these agreements to combat tax avoidance and international tax crime. This means that Skatteetaten receives a lot of information about the assets and income of Norwegian taxpayers in foreign institutions. The Norwegian office is also aware of how much we earn in Poland and what assets we have there, so it is not worth avoiding showing it in the Norwegian settlement - as long as we have a Norwegian tax return. tax residence.
