Livsoppholdssatser – how much you should have left after deductions from your salary

Any of us can get into financial trouble. In this situation, it may happen that the employer will be ordered to make monthly deductions from your salary. These deductions may result in the amount you have left to live on being too low.

Each of us has the right to function normally, which is why the Ministry of Children and Family Affairs sets minimum rates, i.e. amounts that should remain in your household at your disposal. “Livsoppholdssatser” are rates that apply from 01.07.2023.

“Livsoppholdssatser” is the amount you should at least keep from your income to cover other expenses after your regular housing costs, childcare costs or alimony have been paid.

The rates include expenses on food and drink, clothes and shoes, electricity and heating, health, hygiene, telephone, newspaper, television, travel, groceries, furniture, etc.). If you are left with less than your agreed rate, you should make sure you have covered all your basic costs for everyday living. The Ministry doesn't know everything about your costs. Therefore, it is important to provide documentation that will be taken into account when calculating your deductions. Deductions are calculated taking into account your net income, less living expenses (housing, childcare, etc.) and monthly deductions to pay off outstanding liabilities.
