D-number activation

Since 2017 in Norway activation of the D-number is required after 5 years from its issuance. If we activate the number after this time, it will be active for the next 5 years.

The service includes:

1. Checking if your number is active.
2. Make an appointment at the office to activate your number. Unfortunately, it is not possible to arrange everything online.
3. Support and answers to questions regarding visits to the office.

NOTE: An appointment to activate the D-number can only be made at SUA in: Bergen, Oslo, Stavanger, Trondheim or Kirkenes.

1. What do we need to perform the service?

When visiting the office, you must have with you:

• current ID card or preferably passport.
• document confirming residence permit. (optional, but recommended)
• employment and lease agreement. (optional, but recommended)

2. Why do I need an active D-number?

• To receive skattekort you must have an active D-number. The lack of an active D-number will result in the lack of a tax card, which means that a 50% tax advance will be charged with each payment! Therefore, we will receive half the payment, but in the case of annual settlement we should receive a refund in the form of part of the advance payment.
• Lack of an active D-number may result in the closure of a bank account in Norway.

3. Procedure

The D-number ceases to be active five years after receiving it. However, after this time it does not become invalid or deleted from the database. Just activate it again. To do this, you must show up at Skatteetaten for an inspection (ID-kontroll) with a valid ID document, such as an ID card or passport.

4. Waiting time

The D-number is activated on the same day we went to the office for inspection.

5. What does the service include?

The service includes registration at the office for ID-control and assistance in preparing for the control.
